From 310 to 8,000 Instagram followers — what actually worked.
You're spending money every month. The campaigns are running. But enquiries aren't coming in. Here are the five most common reasons Meta ads stop working — and the precise fixes we use for our own clients.
Every week we speak to business owners who are frustrated with their Facebook and Instagram ads. They have been spending money for months. The campaigns are running. The budget is being used. But enquiries are barely coming in — and when they do, they are the wrong kind.
After managing Meta Ads campaigns for over 30 Delhi businesses across restaurants, boutiques, service providers, and e-commerce brands — here are the five most common reasons we see ads fail, and the exact fixes we apply.
1. You are targeting everyone — and reaching no one
The biggest mistake beginners make is targeting too broadly. "All of Delhi, age 18–65, interested in everything" is not a target audience — it is a lottery ticket. Meta's algorithm needs specificity to learn who your real buyers are.
The goal is not to reach as many people as possible. It is to reach the right people at the right moment.
The fix: Build a custom audience from your existing customer list, website visitors, or Instagram engagers. Then let Meta create a Lookalike Audience from it. These are people who behave like your existing customers — and they convert at 3 to 5 times the rate of broad audiences.
2. Your creative is not built for the scroll
Most business owners use their logo-heavy banner design as a Facebook ad. It looks professional — but it stops no one. People scroll fast. You have between 1.5 and 2 seconds to make someone pause. Static promotional graphics rarely achieve this.
✦ Key insight: In our campaigns, video creatives consistently outperform static images by 40–70% on cost per result. Even a simple 15-second phone video of the product or service in action performs better than a designed banner.
The fix: Lead with a hook in the first 2 seconds. Show the product being used, not just displayed. Use text overlays because 85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound.
3. You are sending traffic to the wrong place
This is the one that surprises most clients. You can have a perfect ad — right audience, right creative, right message — and still get zero leads if the landing page is wrong. Sending ad traffic to your homepage is almost always a mistake.
- Your homepage has too many options — no single clear action
- Visitors have to search for what the ad promised them
- The message in the ad and the message on the page do not match
- There is no fast way to enquire — no WhatsApp link, no simple form
The fix: Create a dedicated landing page — or at minimum a specific page — for each campaign. One offer. One action. One way to respond. For Indian audiences, a WhatsApp CTA button on the landing page consistently outperforms a traditional contact form.
4. You are measuring the wrong things
Reach and impressions are vanity metrics. A campaign can reach 10 lakh people and generate zero business. The metrics that matter are cost per lead, lead quality, and conversion rate — and you need the Meta Pixel installed correctly to measure these.
The fix: Install the Meta Pixel on your website. Set up conversion events — specifically a "Lead" event that fires when someone submits a form or clicks your WhatsApp link. Without this, you are flying blind. With it, you can see exactly what is working and scale it.
5. You are not testing — you are just hoping
Most small businesses run one ad, wait two weeks, decide "Facebook doesn't work for us," and stop. Successful ad accounts run multiple ad variations simultaneously, kill the losers fast, and put more budget behind the winners.
The fix: Run at least 3 ad variants at any time — test one element at a time (headline, creative, or audience). Give each variant at least ₹200–300 per day for 7 days before drawing conclusions. The winning ad then gets 70–80% of the budget.
These five fixes are not complicated — but they require patience, data, and consistency. If you are spending ₹10,000 or more per month on Meta Ads and not seeing results, the problem is almost always one of the five above.
